What is a power reed?

A power reed is a mechanical device that uses the flow of air to produce a sustained musical note. It is commonly used in wind instruments, such as saxophones, clarinets, and oboes. The power reed is typically made from a thin piece of wood or metal that is attached to the instrument's mouthpiece. When the player blows air into the mouthpiece, the reed vibrates and produces sound. The shape and material of the reed affects the pitch and tone of the instrument.

Power reeds are also used in some electronic musical instruments, such as synthesizers. In these instruments, the power reed is used to create the initial sound wave that is then amplified and processed electronically.
