1. Open the hood of your vehicle.
Pull the release lever from the passenger footwell and lift the hood.
2. Locate the engine.
The starter is located on the left side of the engine when viewed from the front of the vehicle.
3. Identify the starter.
The starter is a cylindrical-shaped component with two electrical terminals. It is mounted to the engine block by two bolts.
4. Disconnect the electrical terminals on the starter.
You will need a 10mm socket or wrench to loosen the nuts on the terminals. Be careful not to drop the nuts into the engine compartment.
5. Remove the starter bolts.
Use a 13mm socket or wrench to loosen the starter bolts. You may need a long extension to reach the upper starter bolt.
6. Remove the starter.
Once the bolts are removed, you can carefully wiggle the starter out of its position. Be careful not to drop the starter onto the ground.
7. Inspect the starter.
Before installing a new starter, inspect the old starter for signs of damage. If the starter is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
8. Install the new starter.
Insert the new starter into its position on the engine block. Be sure to align the mounting holes with the bolts.
9. Install the starter bolts.
Hand-tighten the bolts until they are snug. Then, use a 13mm socket or wrench to tighten them until they are secure.
10. Reconnect the electrical terminals on the starter.
Hand-tighten the nuts until they are snug. Then, use a 10mm socket or wrench to tighten them until they are secure.
11. Close the hood of your vehicle.
