Where is the transmission dipstick located on a 1999 VW Beetle?

The 1999 VW Beetle does not have a transmission dipstick. Instead, the transmission fluid level is checked by removing the fill plug on the side of the transmission and looking inside. If the fluid level is low, add fluid until it is at the bottom of the fill hole.
