1. Park the car on level ground and turn off the engine. Allow the transmission fluid to cool down for a few minutes.
2. Open the hood and locate the transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually located near the back of the engine compartment on the driver's side. The dipstick may be marked with a yellow or orange handle.
3. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean with a rag. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission fluid tube until it is seated properly.
4. Pull the dipstick out again and check the fluid level. The fluid should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
5. If the fluid level is low, add the appropriate amount of transmission fluid to the transmission. Use only the type of transmission fluid specified in your owner's manual.
6. Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level again to ensure that it is between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks.
7. Replace the dipstick and close the hood.
Note: If the transmission fluid is dark brown or black in color, it may need to be changed. Refer to your owner's manual for the recommended transmission fluid change interval.
