The team at DriveElectric test drove the IONIQ electric when it first became available in the UK. This is what we thought:
This is the Hyundai IONIQ. It has a 28kWh battery and I’m starting with 57 miles range on my test drive today and it’s looking like this car’s battery is approximately half full at the moment. Of course it’s cold outside today because it’s winter, and although officially this car can do 174 miles (NEDC) I would say that in the winter months this will be closer to 120 miles per charge, and around 135 to 140 miles in the warmer summer months.
The IONIQ has charge indicator lights on it’s dashboard similar to it’s cousin, the Kia Soul EV. These lights are handy when you’re plugged in at home as you can look out of the window and see the state of charge straight away.
Looking at the reversing camera, again it’s similar to the Soul EV, and it’s good! There are clear indicator lines on the screen display showing you exactly where the vehicle is going to go, this is a really helpful feature.
This car is very quiet to drive, there’s no engine turning around so the only thing you can hear is the tyres on the road.
This is the premium model, so lease costs per month will be around £300 /month. This is pretty reasonable for the kind of car it is, the IONIQ has a bit more range than other models, which it what you would expect at this price point and its all electric so it’s going to dramatically reduce your fuel costs.
