Step 1: Disconnect the fuel line.
Use a wrench to loosen the nut that connects the fuel line to the carburetor. Be careful not to drop the nut or the washer that is behind it.
Step 2: Remove the air filter cover.
Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the air filter cover in place. Lift the cover off of the carburetor.
Step 3: Remove the air filter.
Remove the air filter from the carburetor.
Step 4: Disconnect the throttle linkage.
Use a pair of pliers to disconnect the throttle linkage from the carburetor.
Step 5: Remove the carburetor mounting nuts.
Use a wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the carburetor to the engine. Be careful not to drop the nuts or the washers that are behind them.
Step 6: Lift the carburetor off of the engine.
Gently lift the carburetor off of the engine. Be careful not to spill any fuel.
Step 7: Clean the carburetor.
Use a carburetor cleaner and a brush to clean the carburetor. Be sure to clean all of the jets and passages.
Step 8: Reinstall the carburetor.
Reverse the steps above to reinstall the carburetor. Be sure to tighten all of the nuts and bolts securely.
Step 9: Test the carburetor.
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any fuel leaks. If there are no leaks, the carburetor is installed correctly.
If removing a carburetor for maintenance or repair, it is recommended to rebuild it using a carburetor kit and follow the instructions provided to reassemble it properly.
