- Make sure the fuel door is properly closed. The fuel door warning light is triggered by a sensor that detects when the fuel door is open. If the fuel door is not closed properly, the light will stay on. Check to make sure that the fuel door is fully closed and latched.
- Check the fuel door sensor. The fuel door sensor is located on the inside of the fuel door. If the sensor is damaged or dirty, it may not be able to detect when the fuel door is closed. Inspect the sensor for any damage or debris. If the sensor is damaged, you will need to replace it.
- Check the wiring to the fuel door sensor. The wiring to the fuel door sensor may be damaged or disconnected. Check the wiring for any damage or loose connections. If the wiring is damaged, you will need to repair or replace it.
If you have checked all of these things and the fuel door warning light is still on, you may need to take your Tacoma to a mechanic to have it diagnosed.
