First Cupra Born vehicles roll off production line

VW Group brand Cupra has announced that the first production versions of its first electric car, the Cupra Born, have started to roll out of their factory in Germany.

A close sibling to the Volkswagen ID.3, the side profile of both models are strikingly similar. you can quickly spot differences through, with the Born featuring a sporty and aggressive front grille. The new model comes with several powertrain options; a 45kWh battery, 58kWh battery, 58kWh with ‘e-Boost’ and a 77kWh battery, also with e-Boost. With the e-Boost offering drivers a temporary additional boost in power during acceleration, to shave a few tenths of a second from a sprint time.

The production models are rolling off the line in Zwickau which is VW’s first production plant dedicated to electric vehicles and joins the likes of the ID.3, ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron and the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron of models being produced there.

In another first for the brand, the Cupra Born is also CO2-neutral, where the energy used during production, as well in the supply chain is renewable. In a further sustainable touch, the brand is also using materials sourced from the Mediterranean to make the car’s bucket seats.

According to Cupra president Wayne Griffiths the new model is a ‘game-changer’ adding: “the CUPRA Born will contribute to reducing global CO2 emissions and meeting European targets.”

UK deliveries of the 100% electric Cupra Born will start in the first 3 months of 2022.
