1. Disassemble the Old Drive:
- Disconnect the spark plug wires and remove the distributor cap.
- Using a 17mm wrench, loosen and remove the nuts holding the distributor. Gently lift the distributor out of its housing.
- Remove the old drive gear and gasket from the distributor shaft.
2. Clean and Inspect:
- Thoroughly clean the distributor drive housing and mating surfaces.
- Inspect the old distributor drive gear and distributor shaft for any signs of wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
3. Install New Drive Gear and Gasket:
- Place a new drive gear on the distributor shaft.
- Apply a thin layer of sealant or gasket compound on the mating surface of the distributor housing.
- Carefully place the new gasket onto the housing.
4. Reinstall the Distributor:
- Gently insert the distributor back into its housing, making sure that the drive gear properly meshes with the camshaft gear.
- Reinsert and tighten the nuts that secure the distributor in place.
- Reinstall the distributor cap and spark plug wires.
5. Adjust Ignition Timing (Optional):
- With the engine running, use a timing light to check and adjust the ignition timing to the recommended value specified in your workshop manual.
