3. Loosen the Cable Adjuster: Locate the cable adjuster near the clutch lever attachment point. It typically consists of a 10 or 13 mm locknut and an adjuster nut just behind it. Loosen the locknut.
4. Adjust Cable Tension: Turn the adjuster nut clockwise to tighten the cable or counterclockwise to loosen it. The goal is to achieve a free play of about 10-15 mm (0.4-0.6 inches) between the end of the cable housing and the clutch lever when the pedal is fully released.
5. Lock in the Adjustment: Once you achieve the desired free play, hold the adjuster nut in place with a wrench while tightening the locknut against it.
6. Test the Adjustment: Press down on the clutch pedal and ensure that it engages smoothly and fully disengages when released.
7. Confirm Results: Start the engine and engage first gear. The car should not move forward with the clutch pedal fully depressed. If it does, tighten the cable a bit more.
8. Check Pedal Travel: When fully depressed, the clutch should have about 2-3 inches of pedal travel before feeling solid.
9. Test Drive: Take the car for a brief drive and ensure that shifting gears is smooth and there are no unexpected engagements or disengagements of the clutch.
