- New transmission fluid (check your owner's manual for the recommended type and amount)
- Drain pan
- Funnel
- Wrench
- Rags
Procedure:
1. Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. If the engine has been running, allow it to cool down completely.
3. Locate the transmission drain plug. It is usually located on the bottom of the transmission pan.
4. Place the drain pan under the transmission drain plug.
5. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the transmission drain plug.
6. Allow the old transmission fluid to drain completely into the drain pan.
7. Replace the transmission drain plug.
8. Locate the transmission fluid fill plug. It is usually located on the side of the transmission pan.
9. Remove the transmission fluid fill plug.
10. Use the funnel to add the new transmission fluid.
11. Add the recommended amount of new transmission fluid.
12. Replace the transmission fluid fill plug.
13. Test the transmission. Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes. Shift through all of the gears and check for proper operation.
*Note: It is important to check the transmission fluid level periodically and add fluid as needed. You can check the transmission fluid level using the dipstick located in the transmission fluid fill plug*.
