Phase 1: Engine Cool-down
- Start the engine and let it run in idle until the engine coolant reaches normal operating temperature.
- Switch off the engine and let it remain off for at least 10 minutes until it is completely cool down.
Phase 2: Engine Start and Drive Cycle
- Start the engine and drive the car for 1-2 minutes at a speed of 35-45 mph (56-72 km/h) without coming to a stop.
- Accelerate the car to 55-65 mph (88-105 km/h) and maintain that speed for at least 3 minutes.
- Slow down the car to 40-50 mph (64-80 km/h) and maintain that speed for at least 5 minutes without coming to a stop.
- Accelerate the car again to 55-65 mph (88-105 km/h) and maintain that speed for at least 2 minutes.
- Slow down the car and come to a stop, idling for about 1 minute with the engine running.
- Repeat steps 3-6 once more.
- Drive the car for at least 15 minutes at a steady speed of around 55 mph (88 km/h).
- Accelerate the car to 30-45 mph (48-72 km/h), let go of the accelerator and allow the car to coast to a stop.
Phase 3: Engine Shutdown
- Bring the car to a stop and park it.
- Switch off the engine and allow it to cool down for at least 5 minutes.
