Where is the battery on a 2003 VW Passat?

The battery on a 2003 VW Passat is located in the trunk on the passenger side. To access the battery, you must remove the spare tire and the foam insert, then disconnect the negative cable first (black, 10mm bolt), and then the positive cable (red, 13mm nut). Next, remove the battery hold down bolt (13mm) and remove the battery. Be sure to connect the positive cable first and then the negative cable when reinstalling the battery.
