1. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. The battery is located in the trunk of the Beetle, and you will need to access it from the rear of the vehicle.
2. Open the trunk of the Beetle. There is a release lever located on the driver's side of the dashboard. Pull the lever and lift the trunk lid.
3. Locate the battery. The battery is located on the right side of the trunk, near the rear of the vehicle.
4. Disconnect the negative battery cable. The negative battery cable is black and has a "-" sign on it. Use a wrench to loosen the bolt that holds the cable to the battery terminal. Be careful not to touch the positive battery terminal with the wrench, as this could cause a spark.
5. Disconnect the positive battery cable. The positive battery cable is red and has a "+" sign on it. Use a wrench to loosen the bolt that holds the cable to the battery terminal.
6. Remove the battery. Once the battery cables are disconnected, you can remove the battery by lifting it out of the trunk.
7. Install the new battery. Place the new battery in the trunk of the Beetle and connect the positive battery cable first, followed by the negative battery cable.
8. Tighten the battery cable bolts. Use a wrench to tighten the bolts that hold the battery cables to the battery terminals.
9. Close the trunk of the Beetle.
