- New transmission oil (VW recommends Castrol Transmax ATF)
- Oil filter (VW part number 01V 325 401)
- Oil pan gasket (VW part number 01V 321 370)
- 10mm Allen wrench
- 17mm wrench
- Drain pan
- Funnel
Instructions:
1. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Allow the engine to cool down for at least 30 minutes.
3. Raise the car using a jack and jack stands.
4. Locate the transmission oil pan. It is located on the bottom of the transmission, near the front of the car.
5. Place the drain pan under the oil pan.
6. Use the 10mm Allen wrench to remove the drain plug.
7. Allow the transmission oil to drain completely. This may take a few minutes.
8. Once the oil has drained, replace the drain plug.
9. Use the 17mm wrench to remove the oil filter.
10. Apply a thin coat of new transmission oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
11. Screw the new oil filter onto the transmission.
12. Tighten the oil filter until it is snug.
13. Lower the car using the jack and jack stands.
14. Open the hood of the car.
15. Locate the transmission oil dipstick. It is located on the back of the engine, near the top of the transmission.
16. Pull the dipstick out and check the oil level.
17. Add new transmission oil if necessary.
18. Replace the dipstick.
19. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
20. Shift through all of the gears.
21. Check the transmission oil level again.
22. Add more oil if necessary.
