How do you get the battery out of a Volvo s40 to change it?

To remove the battery from a Volvo S40 to change it follow these steps:

1. Open the hood of your S40.

Note: The hood release is located in the footwell, on the driver's side.

2. Locate the battery. It is in the engine compartment on the passenger's side, behind the air filter box.

3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal (black cable). Use a wrench to loosen the nut on the negative terminal and remove the cable.

Note: Be careful not to touch the positive terminal with any tools when working on the negative terminal or the battery.

4. Disconnect the positive battery terminal (red cable). Loosen the nut on the positive terminal and remove the cable.

5. Remove the battery hold down clamp (if applicable). There may be a clamp holding the battery in place. If so, use a wrench to loosen the nut on the clamp and remove it.

6. Lift the battery out of the engine compartment. Be careful not to drop it or spill the battery acid.

To install a new battery, reverse these steps. Be sure to connect the positive terminal (red cable) first, then the negative terminal (black cable).

Here are some additional tips for changing a battery:

- Wear safety glasses and gloves.

- Work in a well-ventilated area.

- Avoid touching your eyes, mouth or skin with the battery acid.

- If the battery acid does come in contact with your skin or eyes, flush with water immediately.
