Audi A4 flat battery - how to unlock doors?

How to Unlock Audi A5 Doors with a Dead Battery

If your Audi A5 battery is completely flat the key buttons on the remote won’t work and the doors won’t open. If this happens there is a way to release the bonnet (hood) and you can jump the battery directly without having to get inside the car.

Step 1 - Access the bonnet

There is a cover behind the VW badge on the front of the car. If you pull the catch on the bottom of this cover you can pull it off to reveal a keyhole.

Step 2 - Release the bonnet

Insert your car key into the keyhole and turn it to remove the small black plastic cover. You can now insert the key into the hole in the bonnet release switch and pull the handle in the footwell to unlock the bonnet and raise it up.

Step 3 - Jump start the car

You now need to connect the positive terminal on the booster battery or portable power supply to the positive terminal on your car battery. The positive terminals on the Audi A5 battery are at the front end of the battery (nearest to the front of the car).

Next, connect the negative terminal on the booster to a grounded metal surface. There is a convenient grounding point on the chassis below the air filter housing.

Finally, start the engine of your booster battery and let it charge the Audi A5 battery for a couple of minutes. You can then try and start your car in the normal way.
