Instructions
1. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any electrical accidents from happening while you are working.
2. Drain the coolant. Place a drain pan under the radiator and open the petcock valve. Allow all of the coolant to drain out.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. This will give you access to the heater core hoses.
4. Disconnect the heater core hoses. Use a pair of pliers to loosen the hose clamps and then pull the hoses off of the heater core nipples.
5. Remove the heater core mounting brackets. There are four bolts that hold the heater core mounting brackets in place. Use a socket wrench to remove these bolts.
6. Remove the heater core from the vehicle. Once the mounting brackets are removed, you can pull the heater core out of the vehicle. Be careful not to spill any coolant.
7. Clean the heater core. Use a hose and some water to clean the heater core. Be sure to rinse it thoroughly.
8. Install the new heater core. Insert the new heater core into the vehicle and then install the mounting brackets. Tighten the bolts that hold the mounting brackets in place.
9. Reconnect the heater core hoses. Use a pair of pliers to tighten the hose clamps.
10. Fill the radiator with coolant. Add a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water to the radiator.
11. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the coolant throughout the system and help to remove any air pockets.
12. Check for leaks. Look for any leaks around the heater core hoses and the heater core itself. If you find any leaks, tighten the hose clamps or apply some RTV silicone sealant.
13. Reinstall the air cleaner assembly.
14. Reconnect the battery.
