2. Look for a cylindrical object with two terminals. One terminal will be connected to the battery with a thick cable. The other terminal will have a smaller wire connected to it. This is the starter.
3. If you cannot find the starter by looking in the engine compartment, you may need to remove the battery to access it. To do this, disconnect the negative battery terminal (the black cable) first, then the positive terminal (the red cable). Once the battery is disconnected, you should be able to see the starter.
