In general, it is advisable to avoid backing up as much as possible, especially in a commercial vehicle. Reversing puts you close to other vehicles and stationary objects behind you and can obscure any oncoming hazards to your line of sight when trying to navigate in reverse. For the sake of road safety, you should always proceed in your truck or rig by driving forward if at all possible and make reversing the very last and only option if there is no possibility of proceeding forward as it offers fewer blind spots compared to reversing.
