* Leaking fluid. If the shocks are leaking fluid, they will lose their ability to dampen vibrations and will eventually fail.
* Worn-out bushings. The bushings that connect the shocks to the vehicle's frame can wear out over time, which can cause the shocks to become loose and ineffective.
* Age. Shocks simply wear out over time, and will eventually need to be replaced.
