How long can I drive on a spare tire?

The maximum distance and speed you should drive on a spare are indicated on the tire sidewall. It's usually advisable to drive only short distances, like a few miles to a tire repair shop, and keep your speed below 50 miles per hour. Using a spare tire past the recommended distance can be hazardous.

For safety reasons, spare tires are designed for temporary use only. Their structure, performance, and safety characteristics are not equivalent to regular tires.
