1. Gather the necessary tools and materials:
- Toggle switch (with the appropriate amperage rating for your fan motor)
- Wire cutters/strippers
- Electrical tape
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
2. Locate the fan motor wiring:
- Open the hood of your van and locate the fan motor.
- Look for the wiring harness connected to the fan motor. There should be two wires: one for power and one for ground.
3. Disconnect the fan switch:
- Disconnect the wiring harness from the fan switch. This will isolate the fan switch from the circuit.
4. Connect the toggle switch:
- Connect one wire from the fan switch harness to one terminal of the toggle switch.
- Connect the other wire from the fan switch harness to the other terminal of the toggle switch.
5. Test the fan motor:
- Turn on the toggle switch and check if the fan motor runs.
- If the fan motor runs, it means the toggle switch is correctly installed.
6. Secure the toggle switch:
- Mount the toggle switch in a convenient and accessible location.
- Use the screwdriver and pliers to secure the toggle switch in place.
7. Test the switch:
- Flip the toggle switch on and off a few times to make sure it works properly.
8. Insulate the connections:
- Apply electrical tape to all the connections you made to ensure there is no risk of short circuits.
9. Close the hood:
- Once everything is tested and secure, close the hood of your van.
Now, you can use the toggle switch to turn the fan motor on or off independently of the fan switch. This will allow you to control the fan even if the original fan switch is not working.
