1. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
3. Connect a voltmeter between the positive terminal of the battery and the ground.
4. Start the engine and run it at a high idle.
5. The voltmeter should read between 13.5 and 14.5 volts.
If the voltmeter reading is below 13.5 volts, the charging system is not functioning properly and should be inspected by a qualified technician.

- Make sure that the battery is fully charged before performing the test.
- If the voltmeter reading is above 14.5 volts, the voltage regulator may be defective and should be replaced.
