Tools and materials needed:
- Pliers
- Ratchet with a socket set
- New alternator belt (make sure to get the correct size for your vehicle)
Steps:
1. Open the hood of your Chevy Celebrity.
- Locate the alternator belt. It is usually located on the front of the engine, near the top.
- The alternator belt is a rubber belt that connects the alternator to the engine's crankshaft.
2. Loosen the belt tensioner pulley.
- The belt tensioner pulley is a small pulley that is located near the alternator.
- Use a ratchet and socket to loosen the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley in place.
- Once the bolt is loosened, you will be able to move the tensioner pulley away from the alternator belt.
3. Remove the old alternator belt.
- Slide the old alternator belt off of the pulleys.
4. Install the new alternator belt.
- Place the new alternator belt around the pulleys.
- Make sure that the belt is routed correctly, according to the diagram in your owner's manual.
5. Tighten the belt tensioner pulley.
- Once the new alternator belt is in place, tighten the belt tensioner pulley bolt.
- Make sure that the belt is tight enough, but not too tight.
6. Close the hood of your Chevy Celebrity.
- Start the engine and check to make sure that the alternator is working properly.
7. Test the belt tension
- Use a tension gauge to measure the belt tension.
- The tension should be between 70-90 pounds for most Chevy Celebrities.
