Materials Needed:
1. New transmission fluid of the correct type as recommended in the owner’s manual.
2. Funnel for pouring the fluid.
3. Wrench or socket set.
4. Clean rags or paper towels.
Procedure:
1. Park your vehicle on level ground and engage the parking brake. Make sure the engine has been running to allow the transmission fluid to warm up a little, but then turn off the engine.
2. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick tube. In the engine bay of your Nissan Primera, find the transmission fluid dipstick.
3. Check the current transmission fluid level. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean with a rag, then insert it back into the tube until it seats properly. Pull it out again and check the fluid level. If it’s low or if the fluid looks dark and dirty, you need to add or change the fluid.
4. Locate the transmission fluid drain plug. Underneath your vehicle, locate the drain plug for the transmission fluid pan. It is usually a 17mm or 19mm bolt.
5. Place a drain pan under the drain plug. To catch the old fluid, place an oil drain pan or some other suitable container underneath the drain plug.
6. Loosen the drain plug and let the fluid drain. Use a wrench or socket to loosen the drain plug and allow the old transmission fluid to drain out into the drain pan. Make sure to replace the crush washer on the drain plug when reinstalling it. Tighten the plug once all the fluid has drained.
7. Add new transmission fluid. Now that the old fluid has been drained, you can add new transmission fluid. Use the funnel to add the recommended amount of new transmission fluid to the transmission through the dipstick tube.
8. Check the transmission fluid level. After adding the new fluid, check the level using the dipstick again. Make sure the fluid level is between the “Full” and “Add” marks on the dipstick. If necessary, add more fluid.
9. Replace the dipstick tube. Once you have filled the transmission with the required amount of fluid, reinstall the dipstick.
Remember, the steps may vary slightly for your specific Nissan Primera model and year, so refer to the owner's manual for any additional details or specific procedures for your vehicle. It is also recommended to change the transmission fluid regularly as part of routine maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the transmission.
