* Jack and jack stands
* Safety glasses
* Lug wrench
* Socket set
* Brake fluid
* Rags
* New brake pads
* New brake rotors (if necessary)
Step 2: Park your car in a safe location.
* Park your car on a level surface.
* Turn off the engine and apply the parking brake.
* Put the car in gear (if it's a manual transmission) or set the parking brake (if it's an automatic transmission).
Step 3: Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels.
* Using the lug wrench, turn the lug nuts counter clockwise until they are loose.
* Do not remove the lug nuts completely.
Step 4: Jack up the car.
* Place the jack under the car's frame, near the wheel you will be working on.
* Jack the car up until the tire is off the ground.
* Place the jack stands under the car's frame, near the jack.
* Lower the car onto the jack stands.
Step 5: Remove the wheel.
* Using the lug wrench, remove the lug nuts completely.
* Remove the wheel by pulling it straight off of the hub.
Step 6: Remove the brake caliper.
* Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts holding the brake caliper to the steering knuckle.
* Lift the brake caliper off of the rotor.
Step 7: Remove the old brake pads.
* Use a pry bar to remove the old brake pads from the caliper.
Step 8: Inspect the brake rotors.
* If the brake rotors are warped or damaged, they will need to be replaced.
* If the brake rotors are not damaged, they can be reused.
Step 9: Clean the brake caliper and rotors.
* Use a rag to clean the brake caliper and rotors.
Step 10: Install the new brake pads.
* Place the new brake pads into the brake caliper.
* Ensure the brake pads are seated properly.
Step 11: Reinstall the brake caliper.
* Lower the brake caliper onto the rotors.
* Install the bolts that hold the brake caliper to the steering knuckle.
Step 12: Reinstall the wheel.
* Place the wheel back on the hub.
* Install the lug nuts.
* Tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.
Step 13: Lower the car.
* Jack up the car until the tires are about an inch off the ground.
* Remove the jack stands.
* Lower the car all the way.
Step 14: Test the brakes.
* Press the brake pedal a few times to ensure they work properly.
* If the brakes feel spongy or you hear a grinding noise, you may need to bleed the brake lines.
Step 15: Dispose of the old brake parts.
* Dispose of the old brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid according to local regulations.
