- Spark plugs (check owner's manual for the right type)
-Spark plug wires
- Distributor cap and rotor(if applicable for older vehicles)
- Air filter
- Fuel filter
- PCV valve
- Oil filter
- New Oil
- Coolant
- Cleaning spray
2.Safety First:
- Park car on a flat surface.
- Turn off engine and let cool down.
- Engage the parking brake.
3. Air Filter Replacement:
- Locate air filter housing (usually a plastic cover).
-Open cover and remove old filter.
- Insert the new air filter, ensuring the orientation matches the old one.
- Replace housing cover.
4. Spark Plug Change:
- Remove spark plug wires, being careful not to damage or mix up their order.
- Use a spark plug socket and a ratchet to loosen and remove the old spark plugs.
-Check gap of the new spark plugs; adjust if needed.
-Screw in the new spark plugs by hand, then tighten using the socket.
- Reattach spark plug wires, making sure each one goes back to its correct spark plug.
5. Distributor Cap and Rotor Replacement(older cars):
-Remove distributor cap by loosening screws or bolts.
-Replace cap with a new one, ensuring proper alignment.
-Rotate rotor slightly to ensure it aligns with new cap.
-Replace screws/bolts and reattach spark plug wires.
6. Fuel Filter Change:
-Locate the fuel filter in line; it's often near the engine or under the car.
-Remove the fuel lines; some cars may need a fuel filter wrench.
-Install the new fuel filter, paying attention to the direction of the arrow( usually indicated on the filter).
-Reattach fuel lines and start the car to check for leaks.
7. PCV Valve Replacement:
- Locate the PCV valve, usually at the top of the engine.
-Remove old PCV valve by gently twisting and pulling
-Install new PVC valve by pushing and twisting until it's secure.
8. Oil Change:
-Prepare new oil and an oil filter according to your car's specifications.
- Locate oil drain plug underneath the car and place an oil pan directly under it.
-Open the oil drain plug and let old oil drain completely.
-Once drained close drain plug and move your oil pan under oil filter.
-Use a wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter.
-Apply a thin layer of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
-Screw on new oil filter, being careful not to over-tighten.
-Add new oil using a funnel through the oil filler cap.
-Start car and let it run for a few minutes. Check for oil leaks under the car.
9. Coolant Change:
-Allow engine to cool down completely before beginning.
-Locate the radiator cap and coolant drain plug.
-Place a container under the drain plug to collect the old coolant.
-Open radiator cap and drain plug, allowing old coolant to drain.
- Close the drain plug and discard old coolant responsibly.
-Refill the radiator with the appropriate amount of new coolant.
-Start car and let it run for a few minutes with the heater turned on. This will circulate the coolant throughout the system.
10. Final Inspection:
-Check all fluid levels including engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid.
-Visually inspect belts and hoses for any cracks, fraying, or obvious damage.
-Give your car a brief test drive to ensure everything feels and sounds normal.
