What is a Code 3 vehicle?

Code 3 vehicles (also known as emergency vehicles or response vehicles) are authorized vehicles that display red and blue or amber flashing lights and that by law are exempt from some traffic regulations when responding to an emergency. These exemptions permit them to speed, disregard stop signs and traffic signals, and drive along roads normally restricted to motorized traffic.
