Procedure:
1. Park your van in a safe location. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. Set the parking brake and chock the wheels.
2. Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter is usually located near the fuel tank. On the 1995 Chevy Astro Van, it is located underneath the van, just ahead of the rear axle.
3. Jack up the van and support it on jack stands. Make sure the van is stable before you get underneath it.
4. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This will help to prevent sparks and accidents while you are working on the fuel filter.
5. Relieve fuel pressure.
• Locate the Schrader valve on the fuel injection rail. It is usually located on the passenger side of the engine, near the injectors.
• Attach a fuel pressure gauge to the Schrader valve.
• Open the Schrader valve and allow the fuel pressure to bleed off.
6. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter. Use a fuel line wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the fuel lines in place. Be careful not to spill any fuel.
7. Remove the fuel filter. Once the fuel lines are disconnected, you can remove the fuel filter by unscrewing the bolts that hold it in place.
8. Install the new fuel filter. Screw the new fuel filter into place and tighten the bolts.
9. Reconnect the fuel lines. Use the fuel line wrench to tighten the nuts that hold the fuel lines in place.
10. Start the van. Start the van and let it run for a few minutes to make sure there are no leaks.
11. Check for leaks. Inspect the fuel filter and fuel lines for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the nuts or bolts until the leak stops.
12. Lower the van. Slowly lower the van until it is on the ground. Remove the jack stands and wheel chocks.
