Instructions:
1. Park your vehicle and allow the engine to cool down.
2. Open the hood of your car.
3. Locate the thermostat housing. It is usually a cylindrical-shaped housing with two bolts holding it in place.
4. Place a drain pan under the thermostat housing to catch any leaking coolant.
5. Use a socket wrench to remove the two bolts that hold the thermostat housing in place.
6. Carefully remove the thermostat housing from the engine block.
7. Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the old thermostat from the thermostat housing.
8. Clean the thermostat housing and mating surface on the engine block. Be sure to remove any old gasket material.
9. Apply a thin bead of gasket maker to the thermostat housing gasket surface.
10. Place the new thermostat in the thermostat housing. Make sure that the thermostat is properly seated in the gasket.
11. Replace the thermostat housing and the two bolts that hold it in place.
12. Tighten the bolts until snug.
13. Reattach any coolant hoses that you may have disconnected.
14. Fill the radiator with coolant.
15. Close the hood of your car.
16. Turn on the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature.
17. Check for any coolant leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the bolts or hose clamps until the leak stops.
It is recommended that you test your thermostat to make sure that is functioning properly. Here is how to test your thermostat:
1. Start the engine and allow it to warm up to operating temperature.
2. Feel the upper radiator hose. If it is hot to the touch, then the thermostat is working properly.
3. If the upper radiator hose is not hot to the touch, then the thermostat may be stuck closed.
