1. Start the vehicle and let it idle.
2. Press and hold the "4WD" button on the dashboard until the four-wheel drive indicator light illuminates on the instrument panel.
3. The four-wheel drive system will automatically engage when the vehicle reaches a speed of at least 10 mph (16 km/h).
4. To disengage four-wheel drive, simply press the "4WD" button again.
Note: The 2010 Ford Escape only has part-time four-wheel drive, which means it should only be used on slippery surfaces. Engaging four-wheel drive on dry pavement can damage the driveline.
