1. Ensure that the vehicle is parked on level ground and that the engine has been running for a few minutes to warm up the transmission fluid.
2. Turn off the engine and locate the transmission fluid dipstick. On a 2008 Jeep Patriot, it is typically located in the engine bay, near the back of the engine.
3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission fluid tube until it is seated fully.
4. Pull out the dipstick again and check the fluid level. The fluid level should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
5. If the fluid level is low, add the appropriate amount of transmission fluid through the dipstick tube. Be careful not to overfill, as this can damage the transmission.
6. Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level again to ensure it is correct.
7. Replace the dipstick and ensure that it is seated fully.
