How do you reset the check engine light on a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse?

1. Turn the key to the "On" position but do not start the engine. If necessary, press the odometer reset button until "Engine" is displayed.

2. Hold down the odometer reset button for at least 5 seconds until the display changes to "Diag Mode Select."

3. Press the trip odometer adjustment but to select “CLR."

4. Press and release the "trip odometer adjustment button" to turn ignition to the accessory position. The Check Engine light will light briefly, flash five to six times and turn off if successful.

5. Start the engine. Note if the indicator light illuminates and remains on to verify reset. Check Engine indicators must only reset themselves after repairs in case of intermittent faults to allow system checks and verification procedures to be carried out.
