- Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure the electrical system is de-energized.
2. Locate the Overdrive Switch:
- The overdrive switch is usually mounted on the center console or near the shifter. It's typically labeled as "Overdrive," "OD," or has an indication for overdrive functionality.
3. Remove the Switch Bezel:
- Gently pry off the switch bezel using a flathead screwdriver or a similar tool. Be careful not to damage the surrounding trim.
4. Disconnect the Electrical Connector:
- Locate the electrical connector attached to the switch. Gently press the release tab on the connector and pull it out to disconnect the switch.
5. Remove the Mounting Nuts or Bolts:
- There are usually two nuts or bolts holding the overdrive switch in place. Use a wrench or socket to loosen and remove these fasteners.
6. Pull Out the Old Switch:
- Once the fasteners are removed, you should be able to pull the overdrive switch out of its housing.
7. Install the New Switch:
- Align the new overdrive switch with the mounting holes and insert it into the console.
8. Secure the Switch:
- Replace the mounting nuts or bolts and tighten them securely.
9. Reconnect the Electrical Connector:
- Plug the electrical connector back into the switch until it clicks into place.
10. Reinstall the Switch Bezel:
- Snap the switch bezel back into place, making sure it aligns properly with the surrounding trim.
11. Reconnect the Battery:
- Reattach the negative battery terminal to restore electrical power to the vehicle.
12. Test the Overdrive Switch:
- Start the vehicle and engage the overdrive gear to ensure the new switch is functioning correctly.
