How to change 2000 Chevy Venture oil pan gasket?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- New oil pan gasket

- Oil filter wrench

- 10mm socket

- 15mm socket

- Ratchet

- Extension

- Flathead screwdriver

- Funnel

- New oil (5 quarts)

- Oil pan

- Jack

- Jack stands

Instructions:

1. Park your vehicle on a level surface. Engage the parking brake. If you can't crawl under your vehicle, you will need to raise it with a jack and jack stands.

2. Locate the oil pan. It is the large, metal pan at the bottom of the engine.

3. Remove the oil drain plug. Use a 15mm socket to loosen the oil drain plug on the bottom of the pan. Make sure you have an oil pan underneath to catch the draining oil.

4. Allow the oil to drain. Let all of the oil drain out of the oil pan. This may take a few minutes.

5. Remove the oil filter. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.

6. Clean the oil pan. Use a degreaser to clean the oil pan. Be sure to remove all of the old gasket material.

7. Apply the new gasket. Apply a thin layer of gasket sealer to the new oil pan gasket.

8. Install the new oil pan gasket. Place the new gasket on the oil pan and align the holes. Carefully lower the oil pan into place.

9. Tighten the oil pan bolts. Use a 10mm socket to tighten the oil pan bolts. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern, gradually tightening each bolt until they are snug.

10. Replace the oil filter. Screw the new oil filter onto the oil pan. Tighten the oil filter until it is snug.

11. Replace the oil drain plug. Use a 15mm socket to tighten the oil drain plug.

12. Add new oil. Use a funnel to add new oil to the engine. Add 5 quarts of oil.

13. Check the oil level. Use a dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.

14. Start the vehicle. Let the vehicle run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.

15. Check for oil leaks. Look under the vehicle for any oil leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil filter or oil drain plug until the leak stops.
