How do you remove fan clutch from water pump 1996 Chevy blazer?

To remove the fan clutch from the water pump of a 1996 Chevy Blazer, you will need the following tools:

-10mm socket wrench

-Breaker bar

-A penetrating oil

-A fan clutch wrench

1. Prepare your vehicle for safety by engaging the parking brake, turning the engine off, and letting it cool.

2. Locate the fan clutch on the front of the water pump. It is a large, round object with a series of fins.

3. If you plan to remove just the clutch, you can leave the fan and hub assembly attached to just remove the bolts holding the clutch to the pump; use the 10mm socket to remove the bolts. There will be three or four bolts. Otherwise, proceed with the next step.

4. If the fan and clutch are to be replaced as a unit, then remove the three bolts holding the fan to the pump utilizing a 10mm socket.

5. Remove the water pump drive belt. Loosen the belt tensioner bolt using the 10mm socket, and then remove the belt from around the pulleys.

6. Spray a penetrating oil onto the fan clutch nut. Allow it to sit for a few minutes to penetrate the threads.

7. Place a breaker bar on the fan clutch nut and turn it counterclockwise to loosen it.

8. Use the fan clutch wrench to hold the water pump pulley while turning the nut off with the breaker bar.

9. Once the nut is loose, remove it by hand.

10. Remove the fan clutch from the water pump.

11. Clean the water pump shaft and the inside of the fan clutch with a wire brush.

12. Reinstall the fan clutch in reverse order of removal.
