1. Gather the necessary tools and materials:
- Engine oil
- Oil filter wrench
- New oil filter
- Funnel
- Spark plug wrench
- Socket wrench set
2. Prepare the vehicle:
- Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Allow the engine to cool down completely if it has been running recently.
3. Remove the oil drain plug:
- Locate the oil drain plug on the oil pan. It is usually a 17mm bolt.
- Place an oil pan or container under the drain plug to catch the old oil.
- Loosen and remove the oil drain plug using the wrench.
4. Drain the old oil:
- Allow the old oil to drain completely from the oil pan.
- This process may take several minutes.
5. Replace the oil drain plug:
- Once all the oil has drained out, replace the oil drain plug.
- Tighten the plug securely to prevent leaks.
6. Remove the spark plugs:
- Locate the spark plugs on the engine. There are eight spark plugs, one for each cylinder.
- Use the spark plug wrench to loosen and remove the spark plugs.
7. Add new engine oil:
- Use the funnel to pour new engine oil into the oil fill cap on the valve cover.
- Add the amount of oil specified in your vehicle's owner's manual.
8. Replace the oil filter:
- Locate the oil filter on the engine block.
- Use the oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the old oil filter.
- Apply a thin coat of new engine oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
- Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is snug. Do not over-tighten the oil filter.
9. Replace the spark plugs:
- Carefully thread each spark plug back into its respective spark plug hole.
- Tighten the spark plugs until they are snug. Do not over-tighten the spark plugs.
10. Start the engine:
- Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position but do not start the engine.
- Allow the oil pump to circulate the new oil throughout the engine for about 30 seconds.
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- Listen for any unusual noises or check for any leaks.
- If everything seems normal, turn off the engine.
