Where is the thermostat at on a 2006 Ford Explorer?

2006 Ford Explorer 4.0L V6

1. Allow the engine to cool.

2. Locate the thermostat housing.

3. It's located on top of the engine, at the front of the cylinder head.

4. Open the hood.

5. Remove the two bolts holding the thermostat housing in place.

6. Lift off the thermostat housing.

7. Remove the gasket and old thermostat.

8. Gently insert the new thermostat into the housing, making sure that it is seated properly. Make sure the thermostat is in the same position as the one that was removed.

9. Replace the gasket and thermostat housing with the bolts you removed earlier.

10. Tighten the bolts until they are snug. Do not overtighten the bolts.

11. Refill the cooling system with coolant.

12. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to allow the thermostat to open.

13. Check for leaks.
