Tools Needed
- 3/8-inch socket drive ratchet
- 15mm socket
- Socket extensions various lengths (long)
- Flathead screwdriver
- Pry bar
- Replacement pulley for power steering pump
1. Raise and support the vehicle safely with a jack and jack stands.
Locate the power steering pump, it is usually mounted on the front or side of the engine.
2. Use the 15mm socket and long socket extensions to loosen and remove the three bolts holding the power steering pulley in place.
3. Once the pulley is loose, use a pry bar or flathead screwdriver to gently pry the pulley off the pump shaft. Be careful not to damage the pulley or shaft.
4. Thoroughly clean the pulley mounting surface and the pump shaft. Inspect them for any damage or wear.
5. Apply a small amount of grease or penetrating oil to the pulley shaft to ease installation.
6. Place the new pulley onto the pump shaft.
7. Thread the bolts back into the pulley and hand-tighten them. Ensure the pulley is seated correctly on the pump shaft.
8. Now use the ratchet and socket to tighten the bolts securely.
9. Reconnect the power steering hoses if you had to disconnect them earlier.
10. Carefully lower the vehicle and dispose of the old pulley. Start the engine and check for leaks or any unusual sounds.
11. Take the vehicle for a short test drive to ensure the power steering system is working correctly.
