The 1997 Pontiac Trans Am came standard with a 5.7-liter LT1 V8 engine. This engine produced 285 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. An optional WS6 performance package was also available, which included a more powerful 5.7-liter LS1 V8 engine that produced 305 horsepower and 335 lb-ft of torque.
