What is the clunking noise when going over a bump in my Chevy Tracker?

Causes:

- Bad CV joint

- Bad Driveshaft

- Bad ball joint

- Loose steering rack

- Bad strut mount

- Loose caliper bracket

Tips:

- CV joints are expensive to replace, but they are easy to check. Simply turn the wheel all the way to the left or right and then drive slowly forward. If you hear a clicking noise, it may be a bad CV joint.

- If you hear a clunking noise when turning, but not when going straight, it could be a bad ball joint.

- If the noise is coming from the rear of the vehicle, it could be the driveshaft.

- Worn sway bar bushings can also clunk over bumps.

- You can do a quick check of your struts by bouncing up and down on the front end of your vehicle. If you hear any clunking, it could be the strut mounts.
