2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. This will prevent the engine from starting while you are working on it.
3. Drain the coolant from the radiator. You can do this by opening the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator or by using a coolant drain kit.
4. Remove the serpentine belt. The serpentine belt is the long belt that drives all of the accessories on the engine. To remove it, you will need to loosen the tensioner pulley.
5. Remove the water pump pulley. The water pump pulley is located on the front of the water pump. To remove it, you will need to use a wrench to loosen the bolts that hold it in place.
6. Remove the water pump bolts. The water pump bolts are located around the perimeter of the water pump. To remove them, you will need to use a wrench.
7. Remove the water pump. Once the bolts are removed, you can carefully pry the water pump off of the engine block. Be careful not to spill any coolant.
8. Clean the mating surface on the engine block. Once the water pump is removed, you will need to clean the mating surface on the engine block. You can do this by scraping it with a gasket scraper or by using a wire brush.
9. Install a new water pump gasket. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the new gasket before installing it.
10. Install the water pump. Carefully place the water pump on the engine block and align the bolt holes. Thread the bolts into the holes and tighten them until they are snug.
11. Install the water pump pulley. Place the water pump pulley on the water pump and align the bolt holes. Thread the bolts into the holes and tighten them until they are snug.
12. Install the serpentine belt. Place the serpentine belt around the pulleys and tension it according to the specifications in the vehicle manual.
13. Refill the coolant. Add coolant to the radiator until it is full. Be careful not to overfill the radiator.
14. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
15. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks. If you see any leaks, stop the engine and tighten the bolts until the leaks are gone.
