1. Locate the oil filter. The oil filter is located on the driver's side of the engine, near the bottom. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.
2. Prepare a drain pan and remove the oil drain plug. Place a drain pan under the oil drain plug, which is located on the bottom of the oil pan. Use a wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug. Allow all of the oil to drain out of the oil pan.
3. Locate the oil filter cap. The oil filter cap is located on the top of the oil filter. It is a black plastic cap with a small tab on the side.
4. Remove the oil filter cap. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry open the tab on the oil filter cap. Then, unscrew the oil filter cap by turning it counterclockwise.
5. Remove the old oil filter. Once the oil filter cap is removed, you can remove the old oil filter by pulling it straight out of the oil filter housing. Be careful not to spill any oil.
6. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.
7. Screw on the new oil filter. Hand-tighten the new oil filter until it is snug. Do not overtighten the oil filter.
8. Replace the oil drain plug. Screw the oil drain plug back into the oil pan. Tighten the oil drain plug until it is snug.
9. Add new oil to the engine. Use a funnel to add new oil to the engine. Add the amount of oil specified in your owner's manual.
10. Check the oil level. Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
11. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
12. Check for leaks. Look under the car for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the oil drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.
