Locate the sending unit wire near the fuel tank. It is usually a single wire, and it may be black or brown.
Find the fuel tank sending unit connector on your new gas tank. It is a small, round connector located on the top of the tank.
Connect the sending unit wire to the connector.
Secure the connection with a zip tie or electrical tape.
Test the fuel gauge
Turn on the ignition and check the fuel gauge. The gauge should read "Full" if the tank is full.
If the gauge does not read "Full", you may need to adjust the sending unit.
Adjust the sending unit
The sending unit is adjusted by moving the float up or down. To move the float, you will need to use a flat-head screwdriver.
Insert the screwdriver into the slot on the sending unit.
Turn the screwdriver to raise or lower the float.
Adjust the float until the fuel gauge reads "Full" when the tank is full.
Secure the sending unit in place with the lock ring.
