1. Locate the transmission oil fill plug. It is located on the top of the transmission housing, near the front of the vehicle.
2. Remove the fill plug.
3. Insert a funnel into the fill hole.
4. Add new transmission oil until it begins to overflow.
5. Reinstall the fill plug.
6. Start the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.
7. Check the transmission fluid level again and add more fluid if necessary.
2015-Present Subaru Outback
1. There is no transmission oil fill plug on the 2015-present Subaru Outback. The transmission oil is filled from the dipstick tube.
2. Locate the transmission dipstick tube. It is located on the top of the transmission housing, near the front of the vehicle.
3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean.
4. Insert the dipstick back into the tube and check the fluid level. The fluid level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
5. Add more transmission fluid if necessary.
6. Start the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.
7. Check the transmission fluid level again and add more fluid if necessary.
