How to change an air filter in a 1998 Toyota Camry CE 4 cylinder manual transmission?

Tools and Materials:

- New air filter (check your owner's manual for the correct size)

- Phillips-head screwdriver

- Flat-head screwdriver (optional)

- Shop towel

Instructions:

1. Locate the air filter housing. It is usually a black plastic box located on the driver's side of the engine compartment. It will have a large hose connected to it.

2. Loosen the screws holding the air filter housing cover in place. There are usually two screws, one on each side of the housing. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the screws.

3. Remove the air filter housing cover. Lift the cover off of the housing.

4. Remove the old air filter. The old air filter will be located inside the housing. It is usually a rectangular piece of paper or foam.

5. Clean the air filter housing. Use a shop towel to wipe away any dirt or debris from the inside of the housing.

6. Install the new air filter. Place the new air filter inside the housing. Make sure that the filter is seated properly and that the gasket is in place.

7. Replace the air filter housing cover. Replace the cover and secure it with the screws you removed earlier.

8. Test the air filter housing. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks around the air filter housing. If there are any leaks, tighten the screws until the leaks stop.

Tips:

- It is recommended that you change your air filter every 12,000 miles or every 12 months, whichever comes first.

- A dirty air filter can reduce your engine's performance and fuel economy.

- If you live in a dusty or polluted area, you may need to change your air filter more often.

- If you are not comfortable changing your air filter yourself, you can have it done at a mechanic shop.
