Tools and materials needed:
- New spark plugs (4)
- Spark plug wrench
- Ratcheting wrench
- 5/8-inch socket
- Pliers
- Flathead screwdriver
Instructions:
1. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down: Ensure that the engine is completely cool to avoid burns or injury.
2. Disconnect the battery: Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal using the pliers to prevent electrical shock during the process.
3. Locate the spark plugs: The spark plugs are located on the top of the engine, each inside a spark plug well. There are 4 spark plugs in total.
4. Remove the spark plug wires: Use the pliers to gently pull off the spark plug wires from each spark plug. Be careful not to damage the wires or the spark plug boots.
5. Clean the spark plug wells: Before removing the spark plugs, use the flathead screwdriver to clean any debris or dirt around the spark plug wells to prevent it from falling into the engine.
6. Loosen the spark plugs: Use the spark plug wrench to loosen the spark plugs by turning them counterclockwise. Do not remove the spark plugs completely yet.
7. Apply anti-seize: Before installing the new spark plugs, apply a small amount of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs to prevent them from seizing in the future.
8. Install the new spark plugs: Hand-tighten the new spark plugs into the spark plug wells by turning them clockwise. Make sure not to overtighten them as it can damage the threads.
9. Reattach the spark plug wires: Reconnect the spark plug wires to their respective spark plugs. Ensure they are fully secured and pushed in place.
10. Reconnect the battery: Reconnect the negative (-) battery terminal that was disconnected earlier.
11. Test the engine: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to check for any issues. Listen for any unusual noises or check for the engine light.
