How do you change the oxygen sensor on a 1995 Jeep 4.0?

Tools and Materials Needed

* New oxygen sensor (Bosch 15715 is a common choice)

* 7/8" wrench

* 1/2" wrench

* Flathead screwdriver

* Pliers

* Wire brush

Instructions

1. Start by locating the oxygen sensor. It is usually located on the exhaust manifold or catalytic converter.

2. Once you have found the oxygen sensor, use a 7/8" wrench to loosen the sensor from the exhaust pipe.

3. Once the sensor is loosened, use your hands or pliers to remove it from the exhaust pipe. Be careful not to damage the sensor.

4. Use the flathead screwdriver and pliers to remove any old gaskets from the exhaust pipe.

5. Wipe the exhaust pipe clean using a wire brush to ensure that there are no dirt, rust, or debris that may interfere with the new oxygen sensor.

6. Screw in the new oxygen sensor by hand. Ensure it is straight before tightening it with a wrench.

7. Use the 7/8" wrench to tighten the oxygen sensor until it is snug. Do not overtighten the sensor.

8. Repeat the process for the other oxygen sensor, if applicable.

9. Start your Jeep and let it run for a few minutes. The check engine light should turn off after the Jeep has relearned the new oxygen sensor readings.

If the check engine light does not turn off after a few minutes, there may be another issue with your Jeep. You should have it diagnosed by a qualified mechanic.
