Why do cars have so many cylinders?

The number of cylinders in a car engine does not determine its performance or efficiency. Cars having more cylinders does not necessarily guarantee greater power nor efficiency over vehicles with fewer cylinders. Each cylinder houses a piston that, due to combustion (or the burning of fuel and air ), goes up and down in unison to produce mechanical energy which in turn powers your vehicle’s transmission and eventually gets you going down the road
